A visit to Chicago in 3 days was planned with a good friend of mine. We got our housing with Airbnb and stayed in Lincoln Park. Lincoln Park is a great neighborhood with lots of restaurants and about one mile from downtown. We got a 3 day travel pass for Chicago which was worth the money.
After traveling to Chicago, we got right to our site seeing. Day on was spent figuring out public transportation. The bus system works real well and there is also the L train that gets you from place to place. Once we got were we needed, we started our adventure in the cold windy city by going to the iconic Bean in Mellenium park. On our way we stopped at Willis Tower but decided not to go to the top as we had tickets to the 360 view in the Hancock building.
After the Bean we walked to Buckingham Palace, since it is still quite cold out the water was not flowing, but the fountain is quite large and remarkable. I’ve been told the fountain has a nice show at dusk during the warmer months. Following the Buckingham Fountain, we walked the streets to the river walk. St. Patricks Day celebrations were close so we had the chance to see the river died green. For lunch, we enjoyed Rock Bottom Brewery.
Our great deal of the day, was groupon for the 360 at the top of the Hnacock building. We had the chance to see the city view during the day and the night. We went to the top on Day 1 at night which was my favorite out of the two. The Hancock Tower ended our Day 1.
Gino’s Pizza–Day View of Hancock Tower–Navy Pier–Public Library–Molly’s Cupcakes
Today we slept in due to a long day prior. We started by eating at Gino’s pizza to enjoy Chicagos finest deep dish pizza. Gino’s had a great lunch deal with $7.25 personal pizza, salad, and beverage. After out filling meal we went to the Hancock tower to enjoy the day view of the city. It was nice to relax and enjoy Chicago from above. Near the tower is also a lot of shopping iwth the Magnificent Mile. We did not do a lot of shopping but there are many shops around to visit.
Following the John Hancock building we went to Navy Pier. Navy Pier is full of shopping and has a ferris wheel. Due to the weather the Ferris Wheel was not in session but the views were nice. Across the way were teeter totters that were enjoyable. Of Course we made a
stop by the Chicago theater to snap a picture.
Stan’s Donuts–Field Museum
To end our 3 day journey, we went to Stans Donuts to enjoy coffee and a do nut, which is a perfect combination in the windy city. We then enjoyed the field museum to meet Sue the dinosaur and see the different exhibits. The field museum could easily take a whole day of exploration.
